Where
we are:
Safeguarding children services is based in Birkenhead,
just across the river Mersey from Liverpool. Birkenhead
is an area of Wirral, the eighth largest metropolitan
district in the country. The wards of Bidston, Birkenhead
and Tranmere, all within a few miles of our base, are
in the top 1% of most deprived wards in the country.
Bidson is the most deprived ward in the country in terms
of Child Poverty.
On the Wirral 7 out of 10 children in the most deprived
wards experience child poverty. Of the 80,000 children
and young people (under 19) who live here, 16,000 have
'additional needs' and 2,000 have acute needs (this
means they are in need of child protection services
or have significant disabilities).
